1974 Ken & Lue Curtis, Dubuque Iowa

For-sale ad from 1973

According to the Ship’s Log, Ken and Lue Curtis came aboard and took possession of the Pious Puffin II at 2:30pm on January 14th, 1974. They purchased her for approximately $64,000, and over the next four years completed the restoration begun by Bill Siebert.

Lue Curtis wrote this story of their years on the Puffin.

Take a virtual tour of the Puffin from approximately 1976. It starts topside, then goes to the Saloon, along the port side staterooms to the bow, back along the starboard side, aft to the Captain’s and Owner’s staterooms, and finishing in the Engine Room.

They commissioned a painting from Maurice Gamache:

The Curtises completed restorations but did not have enough funds remaining to do the “sailing around the world” they had dreamed of.

They sold the Pious Puffin for approximately $142,000 to an interest in Texas who took her to the Cayman Islands.
