Hollywood’s been covering up an important detail about D-day!  As you can see in the picture above, those are clearly bicycles they are carrying off that landing craft.  We don’t recall ever seeing a bicycle in any of the Hollywood movies.  Today, we saw a number of D-day photographs which show that bicycles were used in many places as part of the invasion.

Today we combined our ride along the Normandy coast with a visit to a Canadian Cemetery and a virtual GeoCache search.  Not that nationality really makes any difference.  It is still horrible to see over 2,000 graves and realize that they all died within two months, and most were in their 20s.  We can only imagine the total of all the cemeteries on this coast.  The fight was only a few days, and another three months across France to Paris, but it certainly has changed all that we see around us today.

We’ve now had our last meal in France.  Once again, we arrived at the restaurant after 7:30, been the first in the restaurant and yet it filled by 9:00 pm.  We still have not gotten used to restaurants only open from 11:30 to 1:30 for lunch and then not reopening until 7:30 or 8:00 for dinner.

Tomorrow we will be leaving the continent and returning to the UK.  It has been a most wonderful journey.
