Napoleon, Josephine, and Mary Carol

Our first full day in Paris and we played typical tourists.  After rising late, we stopped at a patisserie for our “petite dejeuner”, then on to the Louvre.  Despite a rather cursory perusal of just a third of the museum, our late departure from there left us too tired to consider anything further than the Musee d’Orsay (immediately across the river from the Louvre).  We of course were both awed by the effort and grandeur and history these two buildings house, but Jon was particularly impressed by the impressionist paintings in the d’Orsay.  And MC took a lot of photos of Napoleon’s apartments in the Louvre:  still thinking about remodeling our shed.

Our observations of the day …

Our original slogan, “Paris or Bust”, underestimates reality.  You can have Paris and the Bust – at the same time!  After all, wasn’t this where Marie Antoinette said “You can have your cake and eat it too”?

Or was it “Let them eat cake”?  And speaking of revolutions, considering that too wide a separation between the rich and the poor can be a cause of revolution, we can now appreciate why it started here.

It’s not only easy to find food in Paris; it’s actually pretty hard to find any that’s bad! (Though we haven’t tried the McDonald’s yet.)
