Saying Tot Ziens to Enno

We’re back on the road!  We began the day with an escorted ride to the outskirts of Amsterdam.  Enno, a Bike Friday representative in the Netherlands and the one who had our replacement wheel in stock, led us on his former commute route through some wonderful wooded paths.

We then finally completed our GeoCache tasks.  We were able to find a cache on the south side of Amsterdam as we left town.  It was large enough for both of the travel bugs we had brought with us from the US.

The rest of the day we headed south, following more beautiful paths through urban and rural areas.  Unlike American farmland, everything looks well cared for, even thatched-roof farmhouses from the 1640’s.  People were understanding of our limited language skills.  One man noticed us as we were examining our map and came by to show us a way to avoid more industrial areas and see more of the country side, and just about the only area where we saw the older windmills.

We finished the day in Dordrecht, only 50 km from the border, so this will probably be our last night in the Netherlands.  But we found the best hotel yet , the Hotel Dordrecht.  It’s a “monumental building”, i.e. registered historical site.  Our room has 11 foot beamed ceilings, 4-poster bed, velvet settee.  It even has air conditioning!
