So many Chateaux, so little time!  J

Today we rode out from Amboise south to Chateau Chenonceau.  As usual, we carefully chose a route in our GPS.  But when we got out on the road, we discovered to our delight, that the route was well marked with signs all the way.  Our GPS route ended up being on a somewhat busy road, and the signs took us a little further, but through picturesque villages, farms, and forests along the way.

The Chateau was unique in that it was built on the foundation of a mill and was completely over the river Orne.  It was well furnished with paintings, tapestries, and furniture of its time.  It was used as a hospital in WWI, and as an escape route across the river during the WWII occupation of France.

But we also must un-recommend the intellicast weather internet site!  It was reporting that the day would be sunny with a few clouds!  Hah!  We’ve finally had our first real rainy day, and ended up cycling back to Amboise with rain and headwinds.  Luckily we had taken long sleeved shirts (though no rain gear), and it was enough to keep us warm for the ride back.

In the evening we visited Clos Luce, the last home of Leonardo Da Vinci.  They had great displays of models of his inventions.  Afterwards we finally got to do our first wine tasting!  Excellent Gamay and Sauvignons.
